Sumba Ikat with shells

Exquisite tapestry from the island of Sumba. Consisting of 3 different techniques. The middle is backstrap weaving (ikat), the 2 outside panels are supplementary warp ikat , and embroidery for the shells... actually they are little claws.

Designs are traditional motifs, lizards, fish, and also stylized figures.
